Reviews

"I spent a great long weekend last month at The Bush House, being an easy 50 minute drive from Gaborone. Being such a small lodge, the atmosphere was friendly yet incredibly calm and relaxing. The staff were great and made the house feel like home. The food was good, with one night's dinner being in the boma and the other, grilled ostrich steak to order. Beautifully cooked. As an amateur photographer, the Bush House was an ideal location. We had good morning and afternoon game drives that were complemented by many hours spend in the underground hide near the watering hole on which the lodge overlooks. Visitors included elephant (lots), kudu, warthog, white rhino, impala, wildebeest, zebra and a selection of birds."

"We stayed in Bush House for two nights in October. The owners, rangers and all other staff we met there did everything they could to make our stay really special and we had a magnificent and very memorable time there. The water hole brought in lots of animals and we have some great photos of them enjoying the water. Obviously, no one can guarantee animal sightings but we were very fortunate to see the big five whilst there. The cheetah viewing was wonderful and only surpassed on the last game drive with a leopard viewing. The food was magnificent and the accommodation good in every way with comfortable beds and a relaxed atmosphere in the main rooms. We would certainly recommend Bush House and we hope one day to be able to return."

"Our family holiday to the Bush House was an incredible experience. We arrived at midday and were greeted by cool drinks and towels and then shown around the lodge. Our first game drive later that afternoon had close sightings of leopards, lions, elephants, rhinos, Buffaloes , wild dogs and cheetahs. We returned to the lodge for a beautiful meal set out in the boma overlooking the amazing bush house waterhole and sat eating a beautiful South African meal whilst watching herds of Buffaloes and elephants take their turn at the watering hole. The perfect day ended with African singing and dancing. We felt very lucky to have such a special start to our trip. Over the next few days we really enjoyed the game drives and experienced many more encounters including a very special one where our guide found a leopard in a tree. We also really enjoyed the underground hide which brought you within touching distance of elephants and many other animals. Gregg, our guide, was brilliant with the children and kept us all entertained. The team at the bush house, including the owners Sue and Gordon, made sure that we were made to feel very special and always had everything we wanted. The meals were delicious and a children's option was added for our younger children. We have many treasured memories which will last a lifetime."

"What a blissful experience we had staying at the "Bush House"in Madikwe. From the wonderful welcome, to the well guided game rides. (We saw most of the big five, the leopard being elusive) to the delicious and beautifully choreographed meals. (Attention to detail awesome.) The accommodation was especially good, providing pleasant privacy, along with African bush atmosphere. Very special was the exceptional underground waterhole hide. Watching the animals drink, in such close proximity, safely, was a priceless experience. Sue, Gordon and their wonderful staff have got it absolutely right. We were exceptionally sad to leave and look forward to returning in the near future."

"Our group of photographers recently spent 4 nights at this excellent lodge. It's a small place, so we had it to ourselves--that made it feel less like a hotel and more like staying with friends who happened to live in a great place. It also meant that our guide, Greg, could be flexible about when we ended game drives for meals (which makes a big difference for photographers!) The hospitality was top-notch, and the food was by far the best we've experienced on safari. With advance notice, they took excellent care of the vegetarians, too. The underground hide was a fun option to keep an eye on the wildlife between game drives"

"This was our second time to the Bush House. This time we brought the other set of grandparents visiting from the US. It did not disappoint! It is such a beautiful setting, the food is great, the animals are abundant, and the staff is wonderful providing for your every need. The underground hide and large lawn are the most amazing places to watch the wildlife at the waterhole. Carine was a fantastic guide and was so great with my two year old on the bumble rides. Laura and Minky were great babysitters while we were all out on game drives. The Bush House will always be our home in Madikwe!"

"We stayed in the Bush House on an exclusive arrangement as we needed all 6 bedrooms. We were travelling with 8 adults and 2 small children. Bush House was perfect for our needs. It has the most stunning outdoor area, beautiful lawns with plenty of space and the most amazing waterhole right in front of the property, which is also visible from a specially constructed hide. We spent many hours relaxing on the lawn, playing with the little children, and all the time, keeping an eye on the waterhole to watch the many, many elephant, rhino, impala, zebra, giraffe, kudu, warthog all coming to drink during the day and night. The house was perfect for our needs as it gave everyone enough space and privacy. The communal living areas are lovely, with different types of spaces available. The staff were very helpful and kind as we needed some special care. JR was our guide and we so enjoyed the drives with him. One highlight was the choir, lead by Minky, singing to us one evening after dinner in the boma. Thanks to all at The Bush House and I hope we see you again."

"We have been greeted by a well organized team at the Bush house Lodge. Our rooms were beautiful decorated and well equipped with amenities. The Bush house lodge is a small lodge for 10 visitors only. The team at the Bush house lodge thus take great care to spoil all their visitors. Food is very good and thankfully not buffet style with great variety of interesting combinations. The grounds are beautiful kept and bird life is flourishing around the feeding stations. The hide is amazing which brings you close to wild animals drinking at the water hole. We had the most fantastic sightings of so many animals."

"Have just returned from our 4th visit to The Bush House and each trip has been superb. We were first attracted by the unique underground hide with close up views of the animals coming to the waterhole to drink. What great photo opportunities! From the graceful nervous giraffe to big herds of elephants of all ages jostling for position, everything is special. Guides Carine and Greg really look after you on the drives, can tell you everything about the animals and do their best to give you great sightings. This time Carine managed the Big Five for us, and our guests were thrilled. The welcome back with a cold towel and drink is a lovely touch. A drink at the bar before eating, with the webcam making sure you don't miss a thing at the waterhole, is a nice way to relax. Lovely Laura will look after you at mealtimes, the food is always excellent, and you may even be lucky enough to hear her and the other staff sing for you! Owners Sue and Gordon and new manager Stefan have created a wonderful lodge. Can't wait to return to The Bush House."

"This lodge is so comfortable and it is beautiful. You feel like you are in your own home. The owners, the staff are like family by the time you leave. Our room was wonderfully appointed. The food was great at all meals and served so beautifully. Our game driver was extremely knowledgeable and delightful to be with. He was ready to take on any animal challenge we gave him. This lodge has a special treat in that the lovely lawn overlooks a very popular watering hole that is constantly host to elephants, wart hogs, baboons, leopard. I spent my off time between safari drives lounging by the pool overlooking the watering hole constantly enchanted wondering what group of animals would come by next. I loved this place-wish I could have stayed longer."
