"The Royal Malewane was, hands down, one of the most fantastic places we've ever had the pleasure of staying in. Andrew and his staff were incredibly accommodating and kind, unobtrusive and very welcoming. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by staff members at the entrance with some cooled towels to freshen up our hands, and some much-appreciated cocktails after a very long few days of travel. Once we were shown the general layout of the resort, we were escorted to our accommodations - and were so very pleased. The very elegant and luxurious colonial style decor was perfect, as was the infinity pool, a really welcome sight. The safari drives (two times per day) were spectacular, where we viewed so many more animals than we had ever anticipated. Our Ranger (Juan) was incredibly knowledgeable and experienced, which made the drives that much more enjoyable. It really shows when someone has a passion for what they do, and Juan's passion for the animals and conservation was most definitely a highlight of our trip. One other couple from California had commented to us that they were thrilled to have been able to see so many more animals than at a previous resort, so hopefully that's a clear sign the conservation efforts at Thornybush are working. The service at the resort itself was top notch. The meals were absolutely delicious, with the poached eggs on truffled parmesan mushroom rye toasts being the highlight of the breakfasts for me. Every need was promptly attended, and all the staff members we encountered were very friendly and kind. The sundowners (afternoon cocktails) were always a treat. I recall having a lovely type of South African stew one evening, and wondered about a recipe, which of course they gave to me (called Potjie, pronounce poi-kee, very yummy). The Spa and staff were wonderful, especially after arriving tired from long travel days. I honestly can't think of any negative experience. It was overall a very luxurious, yet at the same time a cozy experience. We are most definitely going to return, perhaps with the kids this time. What an absolute treat."
