Deep in the shade of a cluster of Londolozi's beautiful, 500-year-old Ebony trees, Pioneer camp makes its home in the shade and seclusion of the wonderful Londolozi Private Game Reserve. A luxury camp with superb views of the local rivers, guests experience new levels of beauty and service at Pioneer camp.
Londolozi Game Reserve, a sub-section to the greater Sabi Sand Game Reserve, is geared towards luxury and exclusivity. Spanning an area of 34 594 acres along the western border of the Kruger National Park, and created by brothers and wildlife conservationists Dave and John Varty, Londolozi has also become known internationally as a place dedicated to the principals of ecotourism.
Londolozi Pioneer Camp boasts three exclusive Suites, complete with four-poster king-size beds draped with mosquito netting, an ensuite bathroom with double vanities, a bathtub, and both indoor and outdoor showers; underfloor heating, a lounge area, writing desk, air conditioning, bathrobes, in-room safes, hairdryer, minibar, tea & coffee making facilities, and a deck with a private plunge pool and loungers. Two of the three rooms can become interleading and thus adapt well to different size family travel.
The camp facilities include a lounge, dining area, bar, gym, internet access, kids club, laundry service, spa, curio shop, and a swimming pool.
Big Five sightings are plentiful at Londolozi, with the park specializing in Leopard sightings! The Big Five along with impala, common waterbuck, grey duiker, kudu, bushbuck, nyala, giraffe, and warthog all roam freely. The ever-present Sand River plays home to Cape Clawless Otter and hippo groups, and guests can spot the white-tailed mongoose, African civet and large-spotted genet on a night time safari.
303 bird species call this area home, including white-crested helmetshrike, lilac-breasted roller, brown-headed parrot, emerald-spotted dove and scarlet-chested sunbird, woodland kingfisher, red-chested cuckoo, Wahlberg’s eagle and Crested Francolin. Saddle-billed stork, grey heron, and pied kingfisher gather around the park's waterholes.
The camp activities include twice daily open-vehicle game drives, guided bush walks, tracking, yoga, astronomy lectures, spa treatments, bird watching, and photographic safaris.
Londolozi Pioneer Camp is ideal for honeymooners, families and small groups looking for an exclusive safari getaway.

"I've been to my share of Sabi Sands lodges always great game viewing generally great lodges but Londolozi is special like no other. The guides are amazing! The quality of game viewing is exceptional and the camp was great. More than that there while ethos was just so evident and strong. I can't recommend this place enough."
"Now this is a place that oozes charm, sophistication, and fantastic service. I first came here nearly 20 years ago, my wife even longer. In my opinion, it cannot be beaten for the way it delivers its 'raison d'etre'! The bedrooms are simply out of this world, sumptuous and tasteful with amazing views of the bush. The game drives are the best by far, with private Landrovers, guide and tracker at your disposal. Watching the big five and more. They demonstrate a really passion for their craft and conservation. The service is simple outstanding. And believe me when I say, I know what good service should be. Faultless, caring, responsive and charming. An example at lunch today. My wife fancied some crisps, salted ones at that. Within five minutes a dish of hot, homemade and salted, potato chips (crisps) turned up at the table. Now that's service! Amazing place, amazing people, amazing experience. If you ever have a chance, then come. It will stay with you forever. Magical!"
"Having visited SA several times in different camps, this has been the best. There is not one thing I could fault this place on. It was the most special destination. Outstanding drives, great food, stylish accommodation, helpful friendly and knowledgeable staff. Every camp here has it's own uniqueness and price point to suit everyone. Really you don't want to come home."
"Cannot find great enough words to describe Londolozi Pioneer Camp & all of Londolozi that we saw. From the drives to the decor, food & service everything is done with passion and finesse! We must add a special thank you to Erin, Trevor & Richie for looking after us so well. We will be back."
"I'm not sure what I expected, but I certainly did not imagine that we would be treated so well and that the experiences would be so incredible. We were upgraded to Pioneer Camp, though I understand the Founder's Camp is also quite nice. The rooms are as big as many apartments that people live in full-time (without your own kitchen). Service is spectacular and the ranger and tracker that we had (Trevor and Richard) could not be beat. They found us everything we thought we might like to see and so much more: leopard taking down an impala, lions crossing a river, a cheetah, leopards mating, hyenas cuddling their young, besides the "usual" giraffes, zebras, various antelopes, rhinos, and hippos, plus birds galore, including an amazing owl. Kim, the wine sommelier, was wonderful and treated us to a tasting of South African wines after we indicated we liked pinotage, as well as a terrific wine dinner. I'd always thought this would be a once in a lifetime trip, but it was so much more and made me want to come back again. Our camp manager, Erin, did a wonderful job in making sure everything was as perfect as could be. I am lactose and caffeine intolerant and they always made sure to have substitutes for me, even when we were having a break out in the bush."
"This was our first safari trip in Africa. Thanks to the fantastic service at Londolozi Pioneer Camp it was outstanding - Erin (manager), Greg, (ranger), Andreas (tracker) and the rest of the staff were fantastic. What made this the most memorable trip ever were the safaris - we did two trips everyday - from 6:00 am to 9.30 am and an afternoon one from 3:30 to 6:30 pm. Courtesy Greg and Andreas fantastic tracking abilities we followed leopards, watched them fight, we followed a lion pride, watched male lions devour a prey, saw baby elephants, rhinos, hyenas, kudu and a whole range of incredible wildlife. With them we did not just see the wildlife, we went through a whole immersive experience even when seeing the less dangerous animals and learnt a lot about every living thing in the forest. The Pioneer Camp has 3 cottages overlooking the jungle. It has its own dining and lounge also overlooking the jungle. So, fairly exclusive even when you have a quiet dinner with the all the 6 guests in the camp. The camp is connected to the other Londolozi camps by walkways (e.g. Yoga and other activities are in the Varty camp). The accommodation in the Pioneer is five star - large living room, larger than king size bed, large bathroom, plunge pool. And you sleep with sounds of Rhinos, hippos and the occasional lion roar. Food and the wines were super. Thanks to Erin for organizing a wonderful surprise on our anniversary."
"We're lucky to have stayed in lots of really nice 5 Star places. There are few that couldn't learn from Londolozi. We (family of 4) are just back from 3 nights in Pioneer Camp. We couldn't find a fault even if we were paid to. If you are lucky enough to be in a position to consider booking this place just do it. We'd be amazed if you regretted it. Well done to management and staff. Pure class."
"We traveled here with my extended family to celebrate my father's 60th. Easily the most fabulous times of our lives. Too many wonderful experiences to highlight in particular other than that from the moment you arrive to the (sad) moment you leave, you are in total amazement. The food (so yum), the luxurious setting, the service and not to forget the safari - we saw the Big 5, and on multiple occasion. Pioneer camp is best experienced as a group of 6 (min) as you then have the whole place to yourself so grab some family and friends and go! This is one of those life changing moments and you will just keep wanting to come back."
"We spent 4 nights at the Pioneer Lodge and we loved it. The rooms are very large with a lovely sitting area. The bathroom is massive and the walk in closet area was terrific because it separated our mess from the rest of the suite. Our room looked over the Sand River and the hippos made a great deal of noise early in the morning. It was fantastic. The Pioneer is tucked away making you feel very private and on your own yet you are minutes away from the lodge as well as the Varty lodge where there is shopping, a larger pool and a small gym. We had our own plunge pool and it was wonderful to sit in the sun each day after our game drive. Tally and Freddie was our guide and tracker. They were both terrific. What a team. A little OCD when it came to tracking something specific, but that was to our benefit. We saw a leopard eating an impala in a tree, vultures after the kill, then the lions arriving. We hunted down the male lion, we tracked a cheetah and her cubs and the last night we heard two lions and literally tracked them into the bush only to find them eating a huge buffalo they had killed. I am not sure how we even got the vehicle through the bush but that image and smell will be melted into my brain and imagination forever. Truly amazing. We were just thrilled. We had a wonderful massage on our deck one day. One of the better massages I have had. No wimping out on the pressure. Georgia was available to help us whenever we needed it and the food prepared by Virginia and Kevin was wonderful - the breakfast each day was superb!! What an adventure. I would highly recommend Londolozi and the Pioneer Lodge."
