The intimate Davison’s Camp is located in the game-rich Linkwasha Concession of south-east Hwange. Hwange National Park is the largest Park in Zimbabwe, occupying roughly 14 650 square kilometres. It is located in the northwest corner of the country about one hour south of the iconic Victoria Falls.
The secluded, well maintained camp is hidden in the shade of false mopane trees, overlooking an active waterhole in an expansive open plain. The rustic yet comfortable tented camp provides a classic safari experience in an area known for superb game viewing.
Davison’s Camp offers accommodation for a maximum of eighteen guests in nine tented chalets. Each en-suite chalet opens onto a verandah that overlooks the busy waterhole, affording guests spectacular game sighting from the comfort and privacy of their suites. Large mesh windows give the chalets a light and airy feel, and offer expansive vistas of the surrounding plains. One of the chalets is a family chalet, offering a second en-suite bedroom.
The main area at Davison’s Camp is a V shaped structure, featuring a dining room in one wing and lounge and bar in the other. Meals are taken either around the communal dining table in the dining room, or around the open campfire area with views of the waterhole. There is a sparkling pool, which offers welcome refreshment between safari activities.
Professional guides lead all safari activities. Morning and evening game drives in open game-viewing vehicles offer great wildlife sighting opportunities. Spotlights are used after dusk to observe seldom seen nocturnal species. A guide accompanies guests on walking safaris, affording guests an opportunity to track game and learn more about the finer details of the area.
The Linkwasha Concession offers productive year-round game-viewing, including sightings of the Big Five. Other species often encountered include spotted hyena, giraffe, sable, blue wildebeest, Burchell’s zebra, impala, eland, common waterbuck, and reedbuck. There are also a number of fascinating lesser known species such as; black-backed jackal, bat-eared fox and five different types of mongoose. A number of small nocturnal creatures are often seen, including the lesser bushbaby, porcupine, aardwolf, pangolin, caracal and African wildcat.
The concession is a birder’s paradise, with over 400 species of bird recorded. An ostrich family has even taken up residence in the camp. Raptor sightings include the rare Red-necked Falcon, Dickinson’s kestrel, Martial eagle, five vulture species, and accipiters such as Shikra and Gabar goshawk.
In the Zambezi teak and false mopane woodlands, birding enthusiasts can spot Arnott’s chat, Crimson-breasted shrike, Kalahari Scrub-robin, Scaly-feathered finch, Swallow-tailed bee-eater, Black-cheeked waxbill, Southern Pied babbler and Bradfield’s hornbill. A number of owl species, including Pearl-spotted owlet and African scop-owl seek refuge here too.
The plains areas offer abundant pipits, larks, coursers and wheatears. Migratory species such as Southern Carmine bee-eaters, Black kites, Broad-billed Rollers, and Abdim’s storks are prolific in the summer months.

"My husband and I were at the Davison Camp in May 2013 with 4 of our friends, The staff was wonderful, the food was great and the wildlife safaris were amazing. This was truly an experience of a lifetime."
"We had the pleasure of staying is this beautiful camp. The location is stunning near a waterhole, so the wildlife gets very close to the camp. A special experience indeed, to lay by the swimming pool with elephants all around you. Very competent staff and guides, and excellent food. The main area building is very well and tasteful designed. The tents are very comfortable."
"Wonderful camp near watering hole. Each day brings more animals to the hole. You can sit beside the fire with a glass of wine and be within easy site of elephants, birds, antelope, lions. You can hear hippos cross by your tent at night. Food is first class. Brian is a terrific guide finding so many different types of animals."
"We took a family vacation to Davison's Camp in Zimbabwe. We had an excellent time! The tents were roomy, and clean. The staff was attentive and the service was great. Our guide was Ntanda. He was knowledgeable and did all he could to show us many animals. We went in July, which is winter. Bring gloves, hats, scarves to keep warm in the morning and late evening. They give you ponchos and a hot water bottle on games drives to keep you warm. Mosquitoes were not a problem this time of the year. Food was excellent! Highly recommend this camp!"
"This was our first experience of a safari and safari camps and we loved it. The staff were friendly, professional and helpful and the food was delicious. Elizabeth the manager is excellent and makes it her priority to ensure everything runs smoothly. The accommodation was very clean and very comfortable. We went out with Brian as our guide on the safaris and he was so knowledgeable and a real animal lover. The camp overlooks a waterhole and on our first day 47 elephants came down to drink. Everyone eats together which I wasn't sure I'd like but I did, especially when the food is of such a high quality. I really cannot fault this place and cannot recommend it high enough. My overwhelming memory is of a really happy camp."
"We were happily surprised at Davison's Camp. While the rooms are modest, they have great view and provide all needed comforts. The staff is 100%+ professional (best of 3 camps we visited!). Sibs, the manager, is soft spoken pro who runs a tight ship and still has time to take guests out on game drives. The vehicles were first class, the guides (we worked with 4 different ones) were knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. The game viewing was superb. Elephants abound, we saw 2 different groups of lions, and about everything else you could want to see with the exception of Rhinos, which are nearly extinct and not part of routine game viewing. Food was adequate and well served. All in all, the experience exceeded expectations and made our trip a success."
"I was lucky enough to visit Davison's last week and am sad we only booked for 3 nights. We drove from Victoria Falls to main camp and were met by our brilliant guide Brian, who took us into the park and on to Davison's camp in the Wilderness concession. Before even arriving to camp we were lucky to see over 300 elephant, loads of buffalo and magnificent birds. Brian was probably the most knowledgeable guide I have ever had on safari, and have been going on safari for the past 20 years. The team at Davison's on the whole were amazing, and are lead by friendly staff Johnny and Kim. The effort that is put in to making your stay memorable is unexplainable. I will definitely be back and would definitely recommend this camp to anyone wanting to visit Hwange. Brian must be praised and Leo as well for constantly being at your beckon call, he made us all feel special. Don't miss out on this luxury camp where the food is good and the game viewing is spectacular"
"We spent 3 nights at Davisons camp in Hwange with our three children. The staff couldn't have been more helpful or accommodating and we loved every minute of our stay. The rustic tents are just wonderful and the food and service is spot-on. The camp is situated in a remote corner of the park and the water hole sees plenty of action all day (and probably all night!) long. We saw some very unique sights on our various game drives, like an Aardwolf, a one-week old baby giraffe, a crazy ostrich and a very relaxed cheetah, not to mention enjoying a few perfect African sunsets. It is so beautiful and unspoilt and we felt privileged to have been able to stay there. Thanks to Shane, Kim, Brian, Leo, Announcer, Charles and all the other staff who make this such a special place - you guys rock!"
"Food, Staff, Animal Viewing, Guides, Amenities... you name it, they were all amazing. I traveled alone to Davison's Camp and I must say I felt like I stayed with family during my 3 nights. Shane, John, Kim, Charles, and the rest of the team were always more than friendly and did a wonderful job of making it feel like home. The food was delicious and there was always abundant amounts, they catered to my special dietary needs. In the staff's DNA runs love for the animals, people, and the environment in general, they are very passionate and that is contagious. The rooms are rustic, cozy and tasteful, the view, simply amazing with elephants drinking from the waterhole day in and day out. Keep in mind the rooms are actually cloth tents on solid floors (bathroom in room has hot water and electricity throughout the day). Our guides where very knowledgeable and very kind. Elliot, Brian and Mike made me feel like my needs and wants were always taken into consideration. We saw many herds of elephants, lions with their cubs more than once, giraffes, antelopes, impalas, wildebeests, zebras, buffalo. You name it. Nothing to envy other well known parks. It was a once in a lifetime experience for me and will definitely come back to this wonderful camp!"
"The camp has the most wonderful waterhole in the front and the animals just keep coming and going, and apparently this is how it is in September and October. We loved the whole experience. The food was superb, the weather was great and the game watching was awesome. We had one sundowner experience surrounded by 100's of elephants ranging from 5 meters away to 100's meters away and they were all calm, and that memory will be with us forever."
