"We had the most amazing experience at Chapungu. The tented accommodations are rustic but comfortable, the food is homey and excellent, the game drives and walking tour mind blowing. We loved it here and would recommend it and return in a heart beat."
"My husband and I stayed at Chapungu Lodge in October 2015 and were blown away! The peace and stillness of the bush was exactly what we needed after a very busy year. The staff are an absolute delight, the food hearty and the accommodation totally decadent. We also had a massage at the main lodge which was hands down one of the best massages we have ever had. The only problem was that we had to leave after 2 nights. We will definitely be back and will make sure we book for a longer stay."
"We stayed for three days at the camp and we were so well cared for. The atmosphere is relaxed and all the staff are amazing. The food was delicious and plentiful. The safari drives were fantastic, with a very knowledgeable Ranger and Tracker. We saw so many different animals and were amazed at how close we were able to get to photograph them."
"We stayed for a couple of days and wished it was longer. We had an amazing experience there. The staff were excellent and always exceeded our expectations. We'd just had 4 days in Kruger however the game drives were so much better at getting up close to the animals without unduly disturbing them. The accommodation was very well laid out, offering privacy from neighbouring tents and was not skimped in any way. The food was delicious and more than we could eat and our personal host, Decide, was always attentive and helpful. Our game guides, Kilmon and Oscar were unparalleled. All in all a truly memorable experience, which we hope to return to in the future."
"We stayed here for 3 nights and went on safari every day. The guides were great, the support staff were all incredible, the food was delicious, and the overall experience was a 10! They wake you up at 5:30 for coffee & tea in the morning then take you out on safari for about 3 hours then you go back to camp, have a rest, shower, lunch and then go back out at 3:30 for another safari that ends with a cocktail in the bush. We loved every minute of it!"
"Chapungu was the first safari camp we have ever been to and we were not disappointed. We visited Chapungu for three nights on our honeymoon (Sept 09), before going on to a lodge in the Sabi Sands reserve. We were pleased we did the trips this way round, as the second lodge was superior to the tented camp at Chapungu - but that said, you certainly get what you pay for at both. To expect 5* treatment and facilities at Chapungu would be mis-placed, but we had the most wonderful time and were glad to have spent a portion of the trip in the tented camp. The reserve itself (Thornybush) is great. We saw all of the Big 5 at least three times over in the space of three days and sightings were very good ones. The guide (Eugene) was knowledgeable and friendly and we were impressed with the set-up generally. We didn't have any more than 6 people in our vehicle at any one time - which meant we always got great, uninterrupted, views and the reserve operates a "no more than 2 cars at any one sighting" policy, meaning your photos aren't spoiled by other vehicles in the background. Game drives started at 5am and 3.45pm and typically lasted around 4 - 4 1/2 hours.Food was good. Dinners were particularly good (always three courses), taking place in different parts of the camp each night. Yes, you have to pay for drinks but they are not pricey.Accomodation is nice, though the a/c isn't the most effective! The outdoor baths are really great and we were made more than comfortable during our stay.Would highly recommend as a middle-of-the-price-range option, though if you're hoping for 5* luxury, this probably isn't the place for you."
"We came here as part of our honeymoon. We weren't expecting it to be quite as luxurious as it was, we were absolutely blown away. Starting with the accommodation: The room was lovely, and doesn't feel at all like being in a 'tent'! It's fully equipped with a mosquito net around the bed and insect repellent, good sized bathroom and even an outdoor bath! When we returned from our afternoon game drive in the evening, our room would be all set-up for us - mosquito net would be out, electric blanket for the bed would be on so it was nice and toasty (as it gets chilly in the evening). There's also a small pool with sun loungers, which are great to chill out on in between game drives. Also lots of comfy sofas in the shade if you don't want to be in the sun. The food was absolutely fantastic - there was also a choice for each meal, and we ate dinner in a different setting on each of the 3 evenings we were there. We would be sat with the group we had our game drives with, which was really nice. The wine was lovely, and in very generous servings! The service was outstanding. We were assigned our own 'butler' on arrival! She and all of the staff were incredibly attentive and helpful. On our last night, rose petals had been laid on our bed, our outdoor bath was drawn for us, surrounded by candles, and complimentary champagne was left for us in our room. This was such a lovely touch, and a great farewell! The game drives: So much better than I dreamt they could be. I was a bit worried we might spend ages driving around without seeing anything, but this wasn't the case. This is apparently the benefit of being outside the huge Kruger national park - it's small enough that you have a chance of seeing some animals! We were with the same group for all of our drives (we stayed for 2.5 days, so had 5 drives and 1 bush walk) - only 6 of us which was perfect. It meant we had space and also had a chance to get to know each other. Our rangers, Kilmon and Oscar, were fantastic. They did not give up when they knew there was something good around, which was totally worth it for the lions, leopards and elephants we managed to see. That's just a handful of what we saw - we saw everything we could have hoped to, often more than once. It was a truly breathtaking experience. We went to a few places on our honeymoon, and this really stood out for us. We would recommend Chapungu to anyone."
"We stayed at Chapungu for 3 days and had wonderful service and excellent game viewing from our expert Ranger and Tracker. We loved the relaxed atmosphere and delightfully complete luxury tent. You can tell that the staff loves their camp because of the attention to detail and care that they took in making our stay the best it could be. Food and drink were plentiful and we would definitely return there when the opportunity arises."
"Chapungu was everything I wanted it to be - small, luxurious, peaceful and with excellent game viewing in the Thorny Bush reserve. I specifically wanted a smaller, more secluded and private lodge and this is exactly what we got. We stayed for 2 nights - effectively a long weekend to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary in November. When the manager discovered this, she presented us with champagne one evening. The staff were attentive without being in the way, the luxury tented rooms were great and the game drives were fantastic. We saw the big 5 within 24 hours of being there, and were treated to two leopards snooping around the entrance of the lodge when we arrived back one evening."
"Staying at Chapungu tented camp is an experience I will remember for the rest of my life for all the right reasons. It is so refreshing to spend time in the fresh air and stunning scenery of the African bush - one evening we even had mid safari drinks with the sun setting behind us and Giraffes getting on with their own evening meal in the trees all around. The accommodation is very nice and you can see lots of (non preditorial) wildlife all around the place. The food is delicious - chef Sam is particularly entertaining as he proudly announces dinner for the evening - ranging from Kudu steak to chicken kebabs and scrumptious chocolate tart. The staff alternate the eating area and setting from BBQ seated around a fire pit to candle lit terrace which makes it very memorable. The wildlife is amazing - we were lucky enough to see the magnificent seven never mind the big five and we saw both white and black rhino... it is such a precious treat to have the opportunity to see these beautiful animals in a natural environment and each sighting is so unique. Above all this though are the talented, genuine and friendly people - Aubrey and Eric in particular - who made an already stunning place into a trip which has really made a lifelong impression on us both. Only been away from there for 24 hours and missing it all so much already! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place or return if I was fortunate enough to get the chance."
