Amakhala Bush Lodge is situated within the private Big Five Amakhala Game Reserve which is only one hours drive from Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape. Amakhala Game Reserve was voted by East Cape Tourism as the best Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape. The five star graded Bush Lodge can be found near the top of an open valley in the reserve, affording guests spectacular views across the 7500-hectare malaria-free reserve.
Bush Lodge boasts eight tented and thatched Suites that are positioned to overlook an active waterhole. Each tent is well-appointed with a four-poster king-size bed, en-suite bathroom with large oval bath, outdoor shower, air conditioning, fireplace, and open deck with a private plunge pool.
The lodge facilities include a comfortable lounge area, dining area, pub, spa, swimming pool, and an expansive deck with an outdoor campfire. The lodge also offers complimentary Wi-Fi in the main guest areas.
Activities offered at the lodge include morning and evening open-vehicle game drives, river cruises, guided bush walks, and exhilarating night drives where you will have the opportunity to see species that are not active during the day. Other activities include birding, stargazing, a visit to the Amakhala Art & Craft Centre, and a visit to Shamwari’s Born Free Foundation.
Amakhala Game Reserve teems with wildlife which includes lion, herds of elephant, buffalo and giraffe; cheetah and rhino to name only a few. Amakhala Game Reserve is also home to substantial herds of plains game species including zebra, black wildebeest, red hartebeest, oryx and eland to name but a few. Bird watching in the reserve is exceptional with over 250 species recorded.
