Bukela Game Lodge offers a boutique Big Five safari experience less than an hour away from Port Elizabeth in the malaria-free Amakhala Game Reserve. Amakhala Game Reserve was voted by East Cape Tourism as the best Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape and Amakhala Safari Lodge was voted by Africa Geographic as number one on a list of five best places in Africa to view elephants in their natural surroundings. The lodge is family-owned and run and prides itself on providing luxury accommodation, warm hospitality, and impeccable service.
The five Luxury Safari Tents are built on raised wooden decks and feature a spacious bedroom, en-suite bathrooms complete with a spa bath and both indoor and outdoor showers; open-plan lounge, air conditioning, electric blankets, minibar, and a wraparound viewing deck which can be accessed from two sides of the tent.
The thatched Luxury Honeymoon Suite features a large four-poster king size bed, an en-suite bathroom complete with a spa bath and both indoor and outdoor showers; a central fireplace for romantic evenings, air conditioning, underfloor heating, private wooden deck, bar fridge and hot drink amenities.

The lodge facilities include a dining and sitting area with a central fireplace, a lounge area with a selection of books, a large wooden pool deck which overlooks a small waterhole frequently visited by buffalo, warthog, and elephants. On the deck there is a second guest lounge where Wi-Fi is available, allowing guests to keep connected with loved ones back home. Guests are treated to bush braais (barbeques) and special festivities in the outdoor boma area of the lodge.
Activities offered at the lodge or nearby include open vehicle game drives, guided bush walks, boat cruises, birding safaris, archery, fishing, and stargazing.
The 7500 hectare Amakhala Game Reserve teems with wildlife which includes lion, herds of elephant, buffalo and giraffe; cheetah and rhino to name only a few. Amakhala Game Reserve is also home to substantial herds of plains game species including zebra, black wildebeest, red hartebeest, oryx and eland to name but a few. Bird watching in the reserve is exceptional with over 250 species recorded.
